A Hot Stepper's rule is 'Death before dishonor.' The streets of Central Kingston, Jamaica become bloody when the rule of law is kill or be killed. Devon Steel, a.k.a. Cold Steel, a teenager who dared to do the unthinkable, carves a reputation for himself as the chief enforcer of an indomitable mafia street gang. When members of the elite National Security & Eradication Unit are executed, a nation-wide manhunt forces Steel to flee Jamaica. He arrives in New York with one vision – to unify all the Jamaican dons, create the greatest empire ever, and rule it all. Steel is joined by his childhood partner, Marshal, the only person he can trust with his life, money and women. Their vision for empiredom is thwarted when their coalition is marked for death by the DEA, the NYPD, the Columbian cartel, and the revenge-seeking Eradication Unit. Steel gives no ground; instead, he engages his enemies by changing the rules of warfare in the ultimate drug war. While the battle wages, Steel is torn between two women, Paula Palmer and Jackie Azan. One is the uppity daughter of a reputed area don, and the other a club diva. Many will suffer, many will die, and a new dynasty will be created by the lionhearted Hot Stepper. ----------------------------------------------------- A Quote from the Book Steel came out of the club and looked around. It was late. This side of Manhattan carried few pedestrians at this hour. He headed to his car. "There he is." Castello nudged Santiago. They both checked their weapons, then signaled a second car parked across the street with a female inside. Steel got in his car, reached under his seat removing his Beretta, placed it in his pocket, started the car, and pulled out of the parking spot. He headed up Houston in the direction towards 12th Avenue to catch the West-side Highway. His radio was off, so he started to speak, taping himself. "Again Paula and Jackie this is Steel. I want you both to listen." He laughed. "I want you both to know that you are my world and nothing will change the way I feel about loving you both ... I don't know how this sounds, but I want us to live like a family ... I am serious ... I know it sounds crazy, but you are the only two women I want in my life and I'll be the best husband to the both of you ... Yes I said husband, but not by man's law. It is our law of respect, trust and love. Paula you will have my son, and Jackie, you will have my daughter, so this tape is to let you both know that I am coming from my heart and..." Steel was turning onto 12th Avenue when he saw the flashing lights. It was two unmarked cars boxing him in, signaling for him to pull over. He wanted to pull out his gun to hide it, but he knew taking his hands from the wheel could be a wrong move. So he pulled over knowing he had not broken any rules at the slow speed he was going. Two men got out of the first car and walked up to his window. "Could you step out of the car Mr. Steel?" It was the two federal agents that visited him in the hospital. "What for?" Steel asked. "We want to talk to you." The Italian Castello spoke. "Just step out of the car." It was Santiago. He had his gun in hand. Steel got out leaning on the car. "So what's this about officers?" "Listen, you piece of shit, you are dead tonight." Castello spoke pulling out his gun. Steel looked around. The street was dead and he felt an uneasiness come over him. The inflection of their voices indicated that they were serious. He wanted to grab hold of the gun in his pocket but he knew it would be suicide. Stall them, that's the best he could do. "Kill me for what? Who the fuck are you working for?" "Motherfucker, you robbed the wrong people." Santiago shouted. "What the hell are you talking about Santiago?" "Manuel, you Jamaican piece of shit." Castello shouted. "I don't know what you are talking about or no fucking Manuel." Steel shot back. "Well his daughter paid us to kill you, and we have your friend Java for insurance to crumble that Diamond Inc. bullshit you all formed." Castello's words made Steel realize that it was not just him who was in danger from these corrupt cops, but the whole crew. He looked around the deserted avenue and felt trickles of sweat running down his arm. "Did you know a federal agent was killed the night you and your friends killed Manuel?" Santiago shouted pointing his gun as Steel. "I don't know what you are talking about." Steel felt a sharp blow across his face. "Do you have any money stashed motherfucker?" Santiago asked. "We don't need his fucking money, we got enough to kill his fucking ass," Castello shouted cocking his automatic, then swung it towards Steel. Steel knew he was about to die. He thought of his mother, father, Paula, Jackie, his unborn children and Marshal. He shouted, rushing at Castello. From the charge, Castello bumped into Santiago who immediately fired at Steel from an off-balanced stance. Steel's gun was out. He fired. Castello and Santiago fired in rapid succession. The night exploded. It was like a Mexican gun battle. All three were firing at point blank range. When the final echoes of the gun battle subsided, Castello fell, Santiago fell, Steel fell, and the night got silent. -----------------------------------------------------
